Legal Question in Real Estate Law in North Carolina

I have a footlocker that I left in my freinds storage building on his property. I havent talked to him in a couple of years as our freindship ended. I tried to text him several months ago and asked for a good time to come by and get my belongings and got no response. How should I go about getting my things back the legal way? If he has gotten rid of my things without notifying me I will be very angry with him and I dont want to do anything that may get me in trouble.

If you had an agreement where he was to keep your items safe for a persiod of time, then you may have the right to sue him. Over several years of not talking, it will be difficult to prove that he owed you a duty to protect your items.
