Legal Question in Tax Law in North Carolina

Starting a charity

I am interested in establishing a charity and want to know what I need to do to make the donations to the charity tax deductible (legitimate) and rules for giving the money away. It would not be huge amounts - maybe $5000 donation from me to start, get other donations and then give small amounts to women for tuition, childcare, whatever.

Re: Starting a charity

You first have to form a non-profit corporation in NC and then have the entity qualfied as tax exempt by the IRS. The IRS form you will use is Form 1023. You are probably going to have to employ an attorney to do this properly.
