Re: What is going to happen?

You asked about what happens to a Pennsylvania driver that gets tickets in North Carolina.

In North Carolina almost every ticket requires a court appearance. This does not actually serve a finction in the administration of justice but does serve to provide NC lawyers with a very nice supplement to their practices.

You can either appear yourself and try to get a reduction or you can hire a NC attorney to represent you. The attorney will also be able to get you a reduction but I'm willing to bet his/her fee makes up the difference, and then some.

If you do not appear and do not hire a lawyer you will have a failure to appear charge added and you do not want that.

If you are found guilty you will have to pay the statutory fines (you can find these on the Web). The court will report the result the NC license administrator who will eventually report that to the reciprocity system. If there is a penalty associated with the finding, such as suspension or revocation, then you will likely face the same result against your license in Pennsylvania.

Do not ignore the court and do not fail to pay the penalty if found guilty (but get serious, it's when found guilty).

And next time drive around North Carolina.

And remember me for all you business and personal legal needs. Referrals are appreciated.
