Legal Question in Traffic Law in North Carolina

Should I get a Lawyer?

I'm almost 19 and I've never had a traffic violation of any kind. Well I got caught going 17 miles over the speed limit. I was on the interstate and there were no cars around so I wanted to see how fast I could go(got a new car by the way). Well I got caught and I have to go to court. What exactly should I expect? Should I get a lawyer? And can I ask for a "Prayer for Judgment". What exactly is a prayer for judgment? Help court date coming up fast!

Re: Should I get a Lawyer?

It sounds like what you need to do is get the ticket reduced to 10 over the speed limit, which would not cause an increase in your insurance since you've been clean for 3 years. If you get a PJC that means if you don't get another ticket a year after the court date this ticket will not count against you. However, if you do get another ticket it causes the first one to reappear and you only get 1 PJC per person (or household) every 3 years.
