Legal Question in Traffic Law in North Carolina

speeding ticket

I received my first speeding ticket 2 days ago. The Patrolman clocked me going 94 in a 65 speed limit zone. I was on I-95. It was open road and not much traffic. I have been told to go to court on the date they give me and ask for a prayer for judgement. Also by just showing up they usually drop the original speed about 5 miles lower. What would be the best thing for me to do? I am leaning toward the prayer for judgement because I dont want points on my license or my insurance to go up. Is this the best option for me?

Re: speeding ticket

For that speed, I would recommend an attorney who is familiar with the county's procedures. You could lose your license at that speed and there is no guarantee that the Judge will grant you a prayer for judgment. You can go and ask the DA what he would reduce it to and then ask for a continuance if you don't like the answer. Just for example, in Wake County, the DA you would speak to would only reduce it to a careless and reckless and not allow you to ask for a PJC, or give you nothing and let you take your chances with the Judge.
