Legal Question in Traffic Law in North Carolina

Speeding ticket

I recently received a speeding ticket for going 70 mph in a 55 mph zone in Franklin County, NC although I am a Maryland resident. I am trying to figure out the best way to prevent my insurance from increasing. I had a previously clean record but my insurance agent informed me that my rate would go up $300 a year if this appeared on my record. Do you think that I could get the offense lowered to something else that would not affect my insurance? Do I need to hire a lawyer or could I appear in court by myself?

Re: Speeding ticket

If you live in Maryland, it would probably be cheaper to hire an attorney. You may be able to get a non moving violation for that infraction in Franklin County depending on your record.
