Legal Question in Traffic Law in North Carolina

I was ticketed doing 37 in a 20 in Wake County, NC. I've never gotten a warning or a ticket prevously. I know I can request a Prayer for Judgement Continued or ask for a reduction to less than 9 miles over. Are there any other options and what are the logistics of doing this? Also, do I have to go to court the day I am assigned or is it possible to go before that date?

In wake County, your options are limited. (The procedure in other counties will vary.) Your best option is probably to get the citation reduced to 9 miles over the limit (e.g. 29 in a 20 zone), as this typically will not affect your insurance. You don't need to use your PJC yet (and you should not do so until you have to). There is no way to avoid going to court on that date, other than hiring a lawyer to represent you. You will probably soon receive (if you have not received already) letters from lawyers offering to represent you. If you go yourself, then you will simply go to the courtroom (probably the "disposition" court on the first floor) and ask the DA in the courtroom if he will reduce the citation, and then plead guilty before the judge, and pay your fine and costs. (I do not, however, know all of the details of this incident or your record etc., and therefore for that reason also you may want to consult further with an attorney.)
