Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in North Carolina

I only have a copy of a notarized will, not the original, is this still valid?

I only have a photocopy of my grandmother's notarized will. The original, we assume, was given to Social Services or a nursing home. We have tried to locate it to no avail. The will named her 2 living children as beneficiaries, with their children as beneficiaries upon their death. She had 3 children. One preceded her in death and she chose not to include his 3 children in her will. Since we do not have the original but have a photocopy, what does this mean?

The Clerk of Court will only probate an original will. You need to find the original or else the heirs will inherit according to the NC statute that deals with people dying without a will.
