Legal Question in Civil Litigation in North Dakota

Collecting Money Owed

Hi, I made the age old mistake of lending a 'friend' money. The problem was I can only prove a portion of what was lent through cancelled checks & what was purchased (his prescription meds...); however, the rest, cash advances and his bar tabs, were usually put on my credit card or debit card(dumb dumb dumb, I know!) All this amounts to maybe $1000, but I am a student so it is an extra hard hit to the pocket.

Getting to the point: what do I do? Does it pay to contact people for affidavits if they know he owes me this money/worked in establishments and saw these transactions or is that just all hearsay and circumstantial (or just too much Law & Order....). What about the fact we work together and he has not only made fun about this around the office, but has also called me names/slandered my friends and I in front of other co-workers?

I have definitely exhaused all other possiblities, so any push in the right direction would really be appreciative!

Does he live in ND? Go to the 2nd floor of the Cass County Courthouse and ask for a small claims court package, you can sue him in Small Claims Court. It isn't enough money to do anything else with. Good luck.
