Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in North Dakota

My landlord filed a clain against for for unpaid rent. Since then i have moved out of state. What happens if i do not appear for the small claims hearing? The hearing is in North Dakota and i currently live in Wisconsin. Could there be jail time or fines?

No jail time. Its a civil proceeding not criminal. You will likely end up with a Judgment against you, meaning you owe the money. If you don't feel you owe the money, then I would encourage you to be in court on the scheduled day.
