Legal Question in Traffic Law in North Dakota

Dirt Bike

17 yr old bought a dirt bike. Before we registered, licensed & insured it he took it for a ride and less than a 1/2 mile from our home (in city limits but in the country on gravel) when coming up from the ditch to the rode he hit a mailbox. We didn't realize you needed a drivers license to ride. The ER reported and he got it for driving without a license and no insurance. We realized and intended to insure but doesn't it need to be street legal to have to have a drivers license for? Any advice would be great.

Re: Dirt Bike

My concern for your 17 year old son is that until he is 18 he has only 6 points on his drivers license. It may be worth hiring a lawyer to see if his drivers license could be saved. If you are in Bismarck I recommend Tom Dickson or Tim Purdon. Good Luck.
