Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio

I am a resident of Ohio, my husband and I are still married but living in seperate houses and we share 3 children together. I can not afford legal counsel but I would like to file for custody. I was told by a judge I can file on my own without representation, however if I do that and on the day of court my husband shows up with an attorney can I file for a continuance until I seek my own legal counsel?

Courts will generally give you one continuance to obtain counsel. Of course, that decision either way is up to the particular Judge you are in front of and his/her policies.
