Legal Question in Consumer Law in Ohio

hello i live in cincinnati ohio and I was wondering if I have any type of rights when it comes to automotive repairs. I recently enlisted work from a mechanic online and I gave him a thousand dollars up front for the engine i needed and half the labor cost. Now H e calls me and tells me that his mechanics didn't drain the oil from the bad motor before pulling it, therefor some of the parts he was gonna use from the old engine can't be used because the oil got in them. I just asked him how much the extra parts are gonna abe and he wand another 600 which brings the total up to 2200. I feel like he baited and switched on me. Do I have any rights? I don't think that half of the parts he said I need are bad.

Yes, you have a number of rights. Additionally, if the mechanics screwed it up, he is responsible for the additional cost. More importantly, his answer is... let's just say it is inaccurate, or there is more to the answer than you have conveyed here.

There are a number of laws in place to cover these type of situations. If the mechanic fails to follow them, that puts you in a very good legal position. Often, it just takes a reminder to the mechanic, or simply informing them of the laws, and their position changes.

Mr. Brandabur is correct in what he says above. The consumer sales practices act in Ohio gives you several important rights. The only difficulty that you may find is that if you gave your money to a penniless repairman, you can get a judgment against him, but it won't be worth anything.
