Drama with Baby Daddy

Me and the father of my child(never live with me)got into it Feb 2008.He got out of control and went crazy striking me several times with an extention cord and leaving bruises and cuts on me.The ordeal lasted hours(not him hitting me but him stopping for a hour or so at a time and talking about his life and having these weird flash backs)He get mad and start hit me again.It was as crazy when i got a chance to get the the bathroom i called 911.He was arrested and charged with Felonious assault felony 2,kidnapping felony 1,and domstic violence felony 3(this is his 3rd DV he is currently in on my charges and a 6month sentence just given for a case with a girlfriend 4months ago)I am not exuse what he did at all it happened to me and i was there so yes he should be punished BUT i do feel bad because we have a child and he has other children and i KNOW he really needs help and locking him up for years won't help only hurt him more.I feel like Kidnapping is severe and i wish i could talk to someone to get that dropped plus i may have to speak against him in court is making making me uneasy and i just dont want him to end up in jail for years and years when i know that wont help any of us.WHAT CAN I DO TO LESSEN THE CHARGES?

You can two things, communicate throughout the case personally, not on the phone, in person, with the prosecutor, and then communicate personally with the judge. He is guilty of kidnapping if at any moment you felt like you couldnt leave. Whether the prosecutor is willing to drop charges is only up to him.
