Legal Question in Criminal Law in Ohio

eavesdropping

A company that I used to work for had an inside voice mail system. When I was employed there, I was able to hear other employees voice mails. Since I left, I have been still monitoring these voice mails. I did not ever divulge information that I heard. In addition, I did not listen to these voice mails for any reason other than curiosity. It became a habit to call these voicemails every day, many times a day. Again, I did not ever divulge information to anyone. Nor did I ever sell the information to anyone. Recently the company has determined that I had acess to these accounts and has told me that I am in major trouble. My question is, What trouble might I face? and What should I do? I appreciate your help.

Re: eavesdropping

You have an interesting situation. The area of criminal offenses being committed by electronic means is a developing area of law. It is possible that you could be charged with trespass or some type of theft offense. More legal research would have to be completed in order to provide you with a more detailed answer.

If you are charged, you should contact a lawyer immediately.
