Legal Question in Criminal Law in Ohio

Employee Theft and return of merchandise

My 18 yr old son admitted to stealing more than 500 dollars in merchandise from his place of employment. He returned the merchandise. The store is pressing felony charges against him. Is there a way to lessen the charge from a felony or even have the charges dropped?

Re: Employee Theft and return of merchandise

Some counties refer first time felony theft cases to a diversion program. In this type of program a person is placed on probation for a period of time. If that probationary period is successfully completed the case is dismissed.

There is plenty of room for negotiation with the prosecutor including a provision that ultimately leaves no conviction on your son's record. You will need an attorney to work that out though.
