Legal Question in Criminal Law in Ohio

My husband was charged with murder, he took a plea of involuntary manslaughter given an indefinite sentence of 1to 10 years according to 1979 laws when this crime happened. can we appeal this so he would get a definite sentence under current law? and if so what area of practice would we look for to help us with this appeal?
