Legal Question in Criminal Law in Ohio

Question for novel research.

My character in a novel I'm writing is a celebrity who beats a reporter. The reporter is hospitalized. What would this individual be charged with in Cleveland Ohio, around 1990? Also, would he be able to leave the country while awaiting his trial? Thank you.

Re: Question for novel research.

The charge would depend on the severity of the injury. The charge could range from assault to aggrivated assault to felonious assault. The last two are felonies and it would be a violation of the bond, if one were granted, to travel outside the jurisdiction of the Court. Aggrivated assault is with sudden passion such as where one finds their wife in the arms of another man and he beats him up, Felonious assault is with the use of a deadly instrument one causes serious physical harm.

Good Luck and happy writting.
