adoption routes

my husband wants to adopt my daughter. he is not the biological father. she has my last name. can we change her name to his? the biological father has not been in our lives since i was one month pregnant.

Your husband should be able to adopt the child without the consent of the father if he has been out of the picture (no support or contact) for more than a year. When the adoption is finalized, a new birth certificate can be obtained and the child can have your husband's last name.

Name changes and adoptions are handked through the probate court in your county of residence.
