Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio

child mentor

I have been a long time family friend of an 11yo boy and his mother. His dad is not around and so he has attached himself to me as a father figure. Being an outsider I can only do so much with him in a legal since. Is there some way to reach an agreement, in Ohio, with the mother that essentially gives me the same legal rights that a family member would have like an uncle. It would be for both the childs protection and for my own.

Re: child mentor

There is not a whole lot you can do, but you can talk to the childs mother and ask what role if any you can play or she wants you to play in the kid's life. Further, the only way to have any sayso would be to either adopt the child or marry the mother.

Good Luck.

He is a very lucky child!!!!!
