Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Ohio

I'm not sure what I can do

Hi, I was recently involved in an altercation with another guy at my house. He had called me and told me he was going to come beat me up, and that if i wasn't outside he would come in my house and find me. So i waiting for him and my girlfiend outside(she is why he was so angry). As he got out of his car I told him to not come on my property, he did so anyways. Then he got up in my face and tried to get me to fight him, but I wouldn't. So he started pushing me. Thats when I pulled out a baton like cops use, to try and scare him away. But he wasn't, he then punched me in the stomach, and when that had little effect he hit me in the jaw and shoved me, i then triped and fell backwards. Then he started kicking me while i was on the ground and eventually spit on me and ran away. In addition to this he has made several threats against the well-being of myself and my family. I still have many of them saved in text message format on my phone. I have no idea what I can do about this, I don't think that anyone should be able to get away with this sort of thing. I was kinda wondering what my options were and what he had done wrong from the legal standpoint. Thanks for your time.
