Legal Question in Employment Law in Ohio

I have worked for a construction company for 9 years. I had a question about what employers are obligated to pay employees as far as hours worked. At my company, we are required to be at the shop by 7:00am otherwise we are considered late. However, the majority of our guys do not start getting paid until their truck leaves the shop. This sometimes being 30-45 minutes after 7am. On the other end of this, nobody gets paid for the drive time back to the shop from the jobsite. Some sites are located more than an hour away from the shop. Mind you we are all inside of a company vehicle for that duration. On average, this equals an hour per day. And at the end of the week this adds up to 5 overtime hours. Is this legal in the state of Ohio?

Travel time and preparation time are both hours worked under the circumstances that you describe. You are entitled to overtime if the total hours worked goes over 40.
