My husband bought our home before we were married. We have been married 17 years and his name is naturally on the deed while mine is not. Should we get my name on the deed or is it really necessary?

Yes. The best circumstance is for you both to own this house in 'survivorship' in order to avoid probate court administration or other inheritance issues, that is, if your husband is in agreement.
