Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Ohio

Will I have to pay

I signed a 16 month lease in July this year. It ends October 2003. My dad passed away in November. My mom wants me to move in to help her financially. I also will be unemployed (ineligible for Unemployment compensation) within a week. My landlord will not let me go from my lease. They said they would try to rent the property as soon as possible, but i would still be liable until they do. My question is if I just don't pay, and they evict me, am I still obligated to pay?

Thanks,

Columbus, OH

Re: Will I have to pay

In a word, yes. Inability to pay is not, and cannot be legal grounds to void a lease. You are responsible for the rent owed until the premises is rerented by the landlord.
