Legal Question in Traffic Law in Ohio

License Suspension and Judgment

On 08/18/01 someone drove my car while intoxicated, wrecked into another car and my insurance payment was 2 days late and had lapsed. Now my license are suspended and I have a $21,619.98 Judgment agaist me that I can't pay and I need my license back! I know I should have done something sooner, but I was involved with the offender (very bad situation) and he wouldn't allow me to do anything about it. I work for an attorney, but it's a very small town and I barely make it from one paycheck to another. What do I do?

Re: License Suspension and Judgment

Well, there are a couple of things you can do. First, you can see if the judgment was obtained properly, and if not, attack that. You can also contact the attorney representing the client with the judgment and try to negotiate a lesser amount and/or make arrangements to make monthly payments. I believe the BMV will allow reinstatement of driving privileges if a payment plan is worked out.

However, based on the fact that your insurance policy was terminated close to the date of the acc ident, other issues present themselves. I would strongly reccommend that you discuss the matter in greater detail with an attorney.
