Asset distribution upon death

If I have a will that designates asset distribution and also have beneficiaries upon death on file with financial organizations for assets held there, which one takes precedence? Can the assets with beneficiary on file be distributed and avoid probate?

Beneficiary beneficiary designations to individuals make the underlying asset non-probate. Such assets are not administered as part of the probate process.
