after a death

my husband passed away and all cars are in his name and credit cards are in his name. all cars still are being financed. what happens to all of this? am i responsible for the credit card debt and is it possible to keep the cars? we own a home together

Sounds like you need to have an Estate opened to transfer these items to you. Did he have a will? Call (or e-mail) w/phone number if you wish and I can give you price on doing this.

The cars may be able to be transferred to you under the current law, however since there is a loan on the cars, you must make arrangements with the lender to assume the loan or pay off the loan. Since it is a secured loan, you cannot obtain title until you deal with the financing issue. The credit cards are unsecured and therefore should be paid by your husband's probate estate, if any. If it is only his name on the accounts, you are not personally responsible for them. If the home is held jointly then that is easily transferred to you outside of probate.
