Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Ohio

My father passed away last year leaving a truck, he had no will and i am next of kin. The truck is in my possesion. It has expired Virginia plates on it. I live in Ohio. How do I go about getting it in my name? I have no title but do have an expired registration & death certificate.

If your father died in Virginia you will need to do something in the Virginia probate courts to get it transferred.

If he was residing in Ohio you could apply to the probate court where he was living to get the authority to transfer. You probably could use a release of administration if this is the only asset.
