Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Ohio

Find Executor

A single, divorced employee was terminated from employment then took his life. How can we find out if there is an executor, and if so, who it is? Our checks have maximum time periods within which they must be cashed. Thank you.

Re: Find Executor

To find out if the estate of this individual has an executor, you would first check with the probate court in the county in which this person resided when this person died.

The clerk of the probate court would be more than happy to tell you if an estate had been entered into probate, who the executor is and the address of the executor.

In the event the estate had not been subject to probate, you might contact the next of kin. Also, if the amounts are significant, you may want to contact an attorney about what to do in the event relatives cannot be located or the estate has not been probated.
