Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Ohio

I was my mother's caregiver on an increasing basis for over ten years. While she was still alive and I was caregiving around the clock, my siblings assured me that they would cede the house to me, even though her will (written in 1980) said that the estate would be divided equally. My mother recently died and my siblings are now reneging on the house agreement. Can I bill my mother's estate for ten years of caregiving, as there would be no estate had she been placed in a nursing home.

You can make a "claim against the estate" for caregiving services. This is allowed by statute. It is not a simple process, however. There are many technical requirements that a "relative" has to meet in order to qualify as someone who can be compensated for services.
