Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Ohio

I am POA on everything for my mother. she died last week and the nursing home sent me a refund of deposit check minus expenses. how can I deposit this check in order to pay her final bills. the check is made out to "the estate of my mother" they said they couldn't make it out to me our checking account is both my name as POA and my mom's. doesn't POA end at death? thank you lauren

I am sorry for your loss. You are correct that your power of attorney ends at death. The nursing home is correct in that they need to make the check payable to the estate. You will probably need some sort of probate administration for this check. Depending on the size you could use a summary release from adminstration or a release from adminstration.
