Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Ohio

My sister-in-law was receiving a check monthly from a settlement due to a car accident. She passed away about 2yrs ago. Her monthly checks were to be paid through 2030. Would her two adult children be entitled to this money?

If your sister in law had a valid last will and testament and/or trust she may have designated who would inherit her assets. If not, her husband (if she was legally married) would inherit as well as her natural or adopted children. A probate estate may be required to be opened in order to administer her estate and properly distribute the settlement proceeds and any other assets she owned at her death.
