unclaimed funds

my mother died in 1997 ,i found out she has unclaimed funds being held by the state,i'm her executor but her will was never signed,but i carried out her wishes to the letter,claiming these funds ,will they have to go through probate and won't that pretty much evaporate them

Depending on the value, you may be able to do a releasse of administration. That is much shorter adn less expensive than a full administration. This is only available to estates less than 35,000.00. Some counties have special forms for unclaimed funds. Call or go to the probate court in the county where your mom passed in order to see exactly what is necessary. It may be easier to obtain counsel to prepare adn file the paperwork.
