Re: will

With the tremendous amount of information readily available today, it is not hard to find a "form" for a Will. However, this is not always a good thing.

I would encourage you to try and find a local attorney to draft and help you properly execute an appropriate Will -- call around a bit and you might be pleasantly surprised at the relatively low cost if you have a straight forward situation / estate. It would not be uncommon to spend $150 or less, sometimes significantly less, depending on the lawyer.

Now, if you really stop and think about it for just a moment, this Will could be your only plan for administering and distributing your entire estate containing money, property, and everything else you have probably worked very hard to acquire during your entire life.

Even if you are young or believe you have little or no assets to leave to anyone, there is always the possibility that your death could occur in such a way that your estate could be the recipient of significant assets, such as may happen from accidental death insurance or from a wrongful death lawsuit due to negligence or medical malpractice.

In my opinion many people -- including some lawyers -- look at estate planning and the documents involved as if they are tangible commodities, all being pretty much the same; an analogy being, a will is a will, just like rice is rice, and orange juice is pretty much orange juice. In reality, this is not at all the case. You may end up with only a few pieces of paper, but what you are truly purchasing is the knowledge, experience, and training of the lawyer, so that the documents address YOUR SPECIFIC SITUATION AND GOALS.

Ok, I am stepping off my soap box now. Best of luck with your situation.
