YES - they are an asset just like anything else you own. Transferring or trying to rhide them or failure to disclose them could lead to federal charges. I would talk to a VERY good BK attorney in your area and carefully look over situation - you may not want to file BK at all particularly as things especially the stock market are on the upswing - there are many other things you will want to look at before BK comes to mind. With BK you can't have your cake and eat it too! One exception is if your stocks are in a pension or 401K account or the like which IS protected under certain circumstances. Nearly all BK attorneys offer fee consultations but I would call the local county Bar associaition for a referral and also check for a certifed BK specialist - not just anyone - do not be penny wise pound foolish. REALLY if you do not know the answer to this question right now - you do not know enough to be running off an filing a BK - this is really BASIC info - but kudos to you for asking! - you should not be considering filing BK - you need to talk to an expert so you know all the options.

Good Luck
