Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Oklahoma

Unpaid debt from divorce decree

I have two unpaid debts in my name - approx $1500.00 that were ordered to be paid by ex-husband in divorce settlement. Pmts were made for several months thru credit counseling. Payments have now stopped being made. Am I liable for the debt? If not, do I need an attorney to sue the ex for payment?

Re: Unpaid debt from divorce decree

If your ex was ordered to pay the debt, he is liable through the divorce decree. However, if you are an obligor on the debt too, then the creditor can look to you for payment. You need to hire a local attorney to pursue a contempt citation against your ex for not paying the debt.
