Legal Question in Criminal Law in Oklahoma

Age of consent in different states

I have known a girl who lives in Oklahoma for a while who is 16 year old. I live in Texas where the age of consent is 17. However in Oklahoma, the age of consent is 16.

Since she lives in Oklahoma, would I be breaking any law if I were to go visit her and sexual relations happened to occur?

If you really want the legal answer to this question maybe you should call a prosecutor in the county where the girl lives and they can tell you there position.

If this was Texas you could get away with having sex with her since there is a three year age difference between the two of you. However you need to know that you are playing with fire.

If this girls parents get mad or even if she gets mad at you could be arrested for sexual assault and face a punishment range between 2-20 years and a $10,000 fine and have to register as a sex offender FOR LIFE.

That isn't a label you want to have.

I know its hard being a teenager but there are consequences to your actions that you really are not ready for.

Imagine if a child were born. Are you ready to get married and work at McDonnell's to pay for diapers or what if you get a STD that she doesn't know about.

I'm not going to preach to you about many things that you already know but before you make a stupid decision you really should think about the consequences.

But if your not going to listen to anyone please use a condom!!!

Sincerely,

Erick Platten

Re: Age of consent in different states

When in doubt dont guess. whatever state you commit the offense is where you will on trial. If you think that MAYBE you could be violating the law then the answer is don't do it. Why? Because the cost of attorneys and the entire process will take up so much time that by the time it is over she could be over the age of majority. So, this is not what you want to hear but just wait. Besides, prosecutors on some of these cases are out for blood and you dont want to be a target for them.
