Legal Question in Elder Law in Oklahoma

My 80 YO father is about to be awarded over 16 years of back pay from SS Disability. He is currently on Medicare. How will this affect his current benefits and can he give the money to his kids and keep his benefits with Medicare.

His benfits should not be affected. SSD and Medicare go together. But you should check with yoru local SSA office. This is a lump sum.

As regards giving it to his children, why should he? He needs it. He earned it. I am sure SSD or Medicaid or Medicare and Department of Health, Long Term Care will keep an eye on the funds.
