Thanks for Inquiring:

As a practical matter, it depends whether the marriage is being challenged or not, and who is challenging it. And under the divorce laws in some states, the analysis as to whether a divorce is "final" or "not final" is further complicated by a "cooling off period," a period of time following the divorce during which the parties may not remarry (typically 6 mos. or so). The purpose of having such a "cooling off period" is to leave the door open for the parties to reconcile, even after divorcing.

Hope this helps, good luck -
