protective order time limit

i was divorced in oklahoma in 1998 my ex took out a protective order on me in 1997 the lawyer i used told me he would take care of the hearing for the order but he never went to it he said they always grant them i was told it was a permenet order i need to know how long it stays in effect one year or for ever please help me find out

You are asking a NM lawyer a question about Oklahoma law. You need to submit the question to the Oklahoma law section and not the NM section.

With that said I can tell you that usually, the length of time the protective order will be in effect is stated in the order itself. Thus, my initial advice to you would be to look at the order. If you do not have a copy of the order then you can write to the clerk's office in the court of the county where the order was issued and they will send you a copy of the order. You will have to send them some money first. There is nothing wrong with picking up the telephone and calling the clerk's office and asking them how much you need to send to get a copy of the order. Then, after you read the order and if you still have questions send a note back to the lawguru - but send it to the OKlahoma section.
