Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Oklahoma

I worked at a restaurant that was shut down. They just locked all employees out. The problem is, I had personal property in the form of an MP3 player in the building when we were locked out. I have called and called the corporate office, and they told me that it has all been cleaned out, and that my property was seized by the owner, and that when my former employer pays back rent, that I can get it back. I was not afforded the opportunity to secure my things before we were forced out (I didn't work, because it was slow, and I was not informed that we were closing,) Would it be prudent to file a civil case to get MY property back? It seems a seperate issue altogether since they withhold my things, although I have no financial obligation to them.

Go to small claims and file against both former employer and the property owner that shut down the place and appropriated your things.
