copyrighted videos

before showing copyrighted videos on my site, do i first have to get permission from the video owner or can i just credit him on my site for the videos shown before getting permission ?

Yes, you need a license (unless you somehow fall within the "fair use" exception of the Copyright Act -- consult a lawyer if you think it is possible). And, yes, you should expect to pay for it.
