Legal Question in Military Law in Oklahoma

Entry Level Seperation

I was discharged in 1988 from the Army National Guard With an Entry Level Seperation. I am now in the hiring process with a police department. I want to be able to show that even though it is an ELS that it is under honorable conditions because it was not dishonorable. I am looking for a positive way to show the PD that it was not for misconduct and is more under honorable conditions. Just need you to point me in the right direction so that they can see that it is not a bad thing but I left because of family hardship. Thank you and what can I do.

Re: Entry Level Seperation

An entry level separation is an "uncharacterized" separation from the service. That means that it is not honorable, general or other-than-honorable. It is merely the early termination of the enlistment contract for the benefit of the Army. All you should have to do is to show them the paperwork that you received upon your separation, or sign a Privacy Act waiver so your potential employer can get access to the records.
