adding a spouse to a mortgage land deed

is it expensive or complicated to add a spouses name to a land deed that has a mortgage?

Not at all. A Quit Claim Deed can be used to transfer record title from one spouse to both spouses, either as joint tenants with right of survivorship or as tenants in common. Of course, this will not have any effect on who is liable for the debt.
