Legal Question in Disability Law in Oregon

Personal Coolers on Golf Courses

I take medications for BP & Gout, and have to drink copious amounts of fluids. I walk for my health, and attach a small "soft" cooler to my bag for cold water. Some golf courses do not allow private coolers on the course, but cannot guarantee there will be frequent cold water stops available. While I am not considered "disabled" under the ADA, I have an "impairment" that can be severly exacerbated by lack of sufficient fluids (non-alcohol). Also, my medicine has to be stored at or below room temperature, impossible on a golf course in the summer. Can I "lean" on the ADA to ensure I can carry my own cooler and water supply, and not be denied the right to golf on a given "public" course, or a public event at a "private" course, because I insist on carrying my small cooler with ice and water? Thank you...

Re: Personal Coolers on Golf Courses

I don't think the ada will help you in this situation because the US Supreme Court recently ruled that the ada doesn't apply unless you are "disabled" and it doesn't sound like your situation quite rises to that level. Hopefully, most golf courses would understand your situation and be flexible. If not, you might just have to play at a different course.
