gardianship

i would like to sign gardianship/custody of my unborn child to my mother how would i go about doing this? does the father(that i dont know where he lives or how to contact him)of the baby have to sign permision?

ANSWER: Can't do it until after the child is born. You can then sign a power of attorney that effectively delegates to your mother all parental rights and authority, including custody, for six months (repeatedly renewable for continuing and successive six-month terms).

Father need not be involved, nor do you need his consent, at least not and unless he has been established by law as being the child's legal father (not merely the child's biological father). Until then, in the eyes of the child, the child has only one legal parent: you.
