Legal Question in Personal Injury in Oregon

My 6yr old son was bit by a dog in my apartment complex. The dog is a mix breed but an obvious pitbull. My apartment complex has a breed restriction, but somehow accepted this pit. The injury is just a coupl scratches, that broke a lil skin but not puncture and does not require stitches. We have not reported it. My wife does not want to be apart of the "agaunat pit" movement. But I feel someone should be held accountable. The owners vet classified the dog as a mix breed. Which allowed it to be accepted in complex. My son altho just scratch on his penis and his inner thigh is now saying he is scared to go back outside. Obviously traumatized a little bit. No doubt he will overcome this in time w our (his parents) help. I dont know what to do. But feel, someone should be held accountable, and aware so nithing worse will happen to the next tennant w a more aggressive/protective "mix breed"

Thank u, mike

From your zip code it sounds like you're in the Medford area. I would recommend you call either Michael Brian or Art Stevens down there. FIRST THING, though, before they go away: I'd get GOOD PHOTOS of your son's scratches, even if minor. And maybe have a doctor look at them. There are applicable statutes of limitation, so I would not wait. A lawyer will likely look to the dog owner's insurance, if they have the equivalent of homeowner's insurance for tenants. But talk to a lawyer near you and go by what THEY say. Best of luck to you. -- Sam
