Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Oregon

Distribution of a estate and duties of Personal Rep.

My mother's estate states in her will she is giving $1,000 to each grandchild and then she gives the remaining money to her four children. All her personal mementos she states she gives to her children as they choose, or the personal rep. decides in case of disagreement. My question, can I request to have a copy of the ''Inventory of Assets'' that she has to give to the Court? What can I request to see as an heir? Or do I have any right to do so? I feel like the personal rep. distributed all my mothers personal assets and when I arrived it was already decided between her and my brothers. Can you advise me? Thank you.

Re: Distribution of a estate and duties of Personal Rep.

Probate records are open to the public and that would include the inventory filed by the PR. You can get the inventory from the PR or from the court. The issue of the fairness in the distribution of your mother's person items is more difficult. A PR who is not faithfully carring out his or her duties can be removed, however it is important to consider the value of the items both in terms of monetary value as well as sentimental value agaist the cost both in terms of legal fees and the destruction of family relationships.
