Legal Question in Immigration Law in Pennsylvania

conflict of interest?

I am presently applying to change my current immigration status in the U.S. This is through employer sponsorship, and the company lawyer is handling the case. Is there a conflict of interest to speak to another attorney (for a fee)just to make sure I am being given the proper advice?

Re: conflict of interest?

The potential conflict of interest exists in your current relationship with the company's lawyer. You should ask the company's lawyer if he/she represents you or the company. If your interests and the company's interests diverge at any point in the future, the lawyer should withdraw from representing both you and the company.

Getting advice from a lawyer that only represents you is wise. It may avoid very hairy situations that may arise from one lawyer representing parties that will have conflicting interests in the future.
