Legal Question in Business Law in Pennsylvania

I have been researching via the PA State website, but it is so complicated and I've only manged to confuse myself! Any way, here it goes...my friends and I want to organize a fundraiser to raise money for the IU Simon Cancer Center because a very good friend of ours was a patient of Dr. Lawrence Einhorn's at this cancer center. Sadly, Our friend passed away 2 years ago on February 14, 2010 from Testicular Cancer. Since then, we (his friends, with support from his family) have done small fundraisers donating $5,000 to the IU Simon Cancer Center through the Indiana University Foundation (as our friend wished). Now, we like to organize a larger fundraising event-picnic/silent auction. Can you please tell me what I am required to file to the state? I want to do this right.

I see that you live in the Pottstown area. I am not sure of the exact procedures that you would have to follow, but my first stop would be to go the city/town hall of the community where the event is to be held. They would direct you to someone who can tell you the rules for such an event, and the permits needed. Also, you and your free friends might have to form a non-profit foundation/corporation so that someone organization exists to take responsibility for the site, the money raised and the costs involved in setting it up. Depending on the size of the event you may be required to have insurance and/or post a bond if the event is to be held on public property.

Alot depends on how big this event will be. First find out the local rules and procedures for getting a permit.
